DRUG AND HEALTH INCOME PROTECTION OFFICE OVERHEAD EXPENSE
TERM LIFE INSURANCE CRITICAL ILLNESS PLAN

 

This insurance plan is offered to members of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.

Since 1997, the Prescription Drug Act regarding insurance, considers engineers under 65 years of age and, members of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec as not eligible for public drug insurance.

If you are not already covered by a group insurance plan, offered by your employer or the employer of your spouse, you must join the health insurance plan negotiated by l'Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.

As prescribed by law, you must also obtain coverage for your spouse and children if they are not covered by another plan.

Spouse means an eligible person is a resident of Canada and who at the time of the event giving rise to a claim:

  • is legally married to the member;
  • has been living in a conjugal relationship with the member for at least 12 months and has not been separated from this person for 90 days or more as a result of a breakdown in the relationship;
  • has been living in a conjugal relationship with the member who is the natural parent of the spouse’s child and has not been separated from this person for 90 days or more as a result of a breakdown in the relationship.

Dependent child means an eligible unmarried person is a resident of Canada who:

  • is under 21 years of age and over whom the member or the member’s spouse exercises parental authority until he/she reaches the age of majority;
  • is 25 years old or under and is a full-time student at an accredited educational institution and over whom the member or the member’s spouse would exercise parental authority if he/she were a minor;
  • has reached the age of majority and is suffering from a functional impairment referred to in the regulation pertaining to the Drug Insurance Act adopted by the Quebec government. This impairment must have existed when the person’s status fits the definition of either a) or b) above. In addition, in order to be considered a person suffering from a functional impairment, this person must be living with the member or the member’s spouse who would exercise parental authority over him/her if he/she were a minor.

It is understood that the functional impairment will be defined as provided by the regulations of any provincial law, if any.

Two options are offered to you

You can choose between:

  • The basic coverage that meets the requirements of the Act by providing protection only for medications on the drug list covered by the Régie (RAMQ).
  • The full coverage that would reimburse costs of medications that can be obtained only by prescription in addition to providing reimbursement of paramedical expenses and travel insurance.
